Cannabidiol (or CBD) is a phytochemical chemical plant chemical that was discovered in 1940. It’s among the newest favourites in alternative medicines, accounting for more than 40 percent of the therapeutic plant’s oil. While CBD has some resemblances to THC CBD isn’t able to provide the same euphoric effects. CBD instead works to block the immune system from creating certain tumor inflammations. But in contrast to what many consider to be the benefits of CBD but we must remember that CBD remains a powerful substance and can have toxic effects when excessive amounts is consumed.
Since the beginning it has been established that CBD can be used to replace alcohol in the treatment of anxiety disorders. The most recent research was made by the lab of Michael J. Gerber at the University of Pittsburgh, where Gerber and his coworkers released their findings in the Journal of Human Evolution. The Pittsburgh lab has recently been used in the research of F.D.A. cannabidiol.
Gerber’s study revealed that “the most important factor in our success was identifying the substances that give us the highest quality without any side effects that are common in CBD.” CBD was once considered an intoxicant. It was a little known substance that had no medical benefits. CBD is not an amino acid; instead, it is a phytochemical that originates from endocannabinoids. They are found in hemp, marijuana, and a few other species of plants. They are a natural antidepressant. Recent research conducted by John Hopkins University has confirmed that CBD has anti-inflammatory properties and could reduce seizures in children with uncontrolled epilepsy.
However, although CBD is considered relatively safe, with occasional use with caution, there is little evidence to support the health effects of CBD when used in conjunction with other medications. The majority of studies of CBD and its active ingredients were conducted on animals fed a diet that was controlled with CBD and other drugs. There isn’t much information about the long-term human adverse effects of CBD, and there is some evidence to suggest that it could be toxic in certain conditions.
Recent reports from the US House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Power suggest that CBD may have psychoactive properties. The committee was especially interested in the effect of CBD on patients who were prescribed Dronabinone. an antiepileptic medication that is used to treat addiction to heroin. The committee found that Dronabinol could be effective in reducing both the desire to be high and the desire to take the same dose again to feel better. However the report did not specify which other medications that are used in conjunction with the CBD to alleviate the effects of narcotic pain.
The evidence isn’t clear whether CBD can be as effective at relieving anxiety than illegal drugs such as cannabis or as effective as psychostimulants like Ritalin. It is the reality that CBD is almost identical in chemical structure with the active ingredient of cannabis (cannabis sativa) which suggests that CBD probably has less impact on the mental state of the user than psychoactive drugs such as cannabis. However, there aren’t any recorded side effects of CBD in humans. If CBD helps relieve the chronic pain that is associated with anxiety or seizures that are chronic in animals (as some epilepsy patients are treated using CBD) It could contain serotonergic effects that may be of some use in reducing anxiety in humans, without creating an increase in sedation. CBD does not appear to cause sedation. CBD does not appear have any serotonergic effects on humans.
Alongside the reported lack of side effects, there is also evidence to suggest that CBD could be beneficial as a natural remedy for a variety of ailments like asthma, migraine headaches, menstrual disorders, indigestion and menstrual pains as well as being effective in treating recreational marijuana use. But, CBD cannot currently be used by minors since it is not approved by the US government to sell as a prescribed drug. Although hemp is grown in all parts of the USA, CBD tends to be found in the southern half of the country, in states such as Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida. The production rates vary depending on the availability of industrial hemp. According to the hemp lobby, the federal government has yet not yet approved CBD cultivation for form of medicine or medical use.
While CBD does not have the same mind-altering effects as THC but it has been demonstrated in some instances to decrease nausea. Some evidence suggests that CBD could aid in the treatment of anxiety and seizure disorders. The sole health benefit known of CBD as previously mentioned, is the reduction in appetite that withdrawal from alcohol causes. Because CBD is generally consumed in the form of a smoke rather than as a tincture like THC and has fewer side effects than cannabis. But because CBD isn’t able to produce the same psychoactive, mind-altering properties that cannabis has, it should be considered a lower risk compared to smoking cannabis. As previously mentioned, more research is needed to determine the full health benefits of CBD when compared to cannabis.
